If you’re reading this, you are probably new into this makeup thing or started a while ago but still feel like you are a beginner.
You know, there are many makeup products in the market, and you might feel intimidated when you don’t know a couple of them.
Also, if you’ve been wondering how you can apply makeup on your skin and seem flawless, then this is the perfect article for you.
By the end of this article, you’ll be able to apply your makeup, help others with their own and in the long run, invent your own ideas.
Rules;
*The number one and only rule of makeup that I know is, you have to let it blend. You don’t have to see where it starts or where it stops. Once you keep this at heart, you’re good to go.
Step 1: Know your skin.
To be honest, this is the most important thing you'll do before you even think of applying makeup on your skin.
I know a lot of people out there that have skipped this step, only to regret afterwards when the cosmetics they've used have damaged their skin. Here are a few things that you should know about your skin.
• Color /complexion.
Everyone knows their skin color, duh. But where does this apply? Well, you might have seen somebody else use an attractive foundation shade, and you love it, but your complexion somehow doesn't rhyme with it.
In this case, you have to do enough research and trust me, wearing no makeup will be way better than looking weird with makeup on.
• Skin type.
All our skin types fall under a certain category, and to get that flawless look when you wear makeup, you have to understand whether your skin is normal, dry, oily or combination skin.
This helps you determine (usually) what kind of primer you have to apply to your skin, because there is a primer for the dry skin and there's that for the oily skin.
• Texture/ quality.
I don't know if you've heard this before, but to look good with makeup, you first have to fall in love with all your flaws and blemishes if any, and only then is when you can conceal them, because your skin is all you have.
You therefore have to understand your skin quality and that'll guide you on how to let it shine.
Step 2: Get your equipment.
Now, depending on the season or the occasion, you'll have to determine what kind of items and materials you need to apply onto your skin to bring out that awesome look.
I think, though, that you need a whole lot of items, especially if you are just starting, so you can try out with any item you wish at anytime. But here's a few determinants.
• Trusted brand.
If you're a beginner, it's really hard to find the right product because there's a whole bunch of people in the industry, and there's a lot of noise on YouTube.
However, you can still trust your friends that have been wearing makeup before you and they can recommend.
• Your purse.
Before you even start to pull out a couple of dollars to pay for that makeup kit, stop and think of whether you can or can't afford what you're trying to get.
If you'll be left with almost nothing, go for the drugstore brands or reduce on the items you're buying and leave others for the next time.
Honestly, nobody will know what brand you're wearing just by looking at your face. And since you're a beginner, you'll want to mess around with affordable stuff that you can easily replace.
• What works for your skin.
Of course after you've known your skin type and all that, you won't need a whole bunch of products you don't vibe with.
So, just get those that can work for your skin, which are those you actually need, and get started already.
Step 3: Prepare your skin.
• Wash & dry your face.
Before you apply any makeup on your skin, you have to make sure that it's clean and all the pores on your skin are open.
If you had applied makeup on your skin before, you have to wash until you're sure that your skin is fresh and clean. After washing, dry your skin with a towel and you'll be ready.
• Moisturizer.
With the use of your palms, gently pat the moisturizer around your face and wait for it to dry. The moisturizer keeps your skin moist and will work for you if you have a dry skin.
After the moisturizer, you'll need a primer, but there are products out there with both moisturizer and primer in one. (Primerizer) If that's what you have, it's still okay.
Step 4: Application.
Before you apply any more makeup on your face, you want to leave your hair clean, and the best way to do this is to get a headband around your forehead. Make sure that it doesn't go beyond your hairline.
Full facial makeup.
• Primer.
Pour or squeeze the primer into your palms, then smoothly rub it allover your face.
The primer makes it easy for the rest of the makeup to sit on your skin.
Also, other primers help normalize oily or dry skins, depending on the type of primer you buy for your skin.
Eyebrows.
* It's essential that you work on your eyebrows before you dive into the foundation.
* If you happen to find your eyebrows a little messy, especially when you're wearing makeup in the morning, brush them a bit to put them in order.
* Also, you can trim them a little bit if they seem too thick or exceeding your desired boundaries.
* After all this is done, mark your eyebrow with the brow pencil and you'll be good for the next step.
Foundation.
After you've chosen the right foundation of your choice and and undertone, apply it allover your face and towards your neck.
Make sure that you apply in small amounts until you feel that it's enough to blend and feel natural on your skin, because you don't want something caky.
Foundation is essential because it covers all the flaws on your skin and gives you that refined look.
• Concealer.
Have you had just a few hours of sleep last night, or is there something you wanna hide?
I bet you've seen a couple of makeup gurus that recommend applying it on your eyelids if you want to hide any signs of fatigue.
Your concealer will do the magic if you it’s like twice brighter than your foundation. Apply it on the flaws that you think you need to cover up.
The concealer is also fit if you want to redraw your hairline, lip line or brow line, and in case you mess up a little bit as you apply other products and want to erase a little.
• Contour.
Have you always felt quite uncomfortable with the shape of your face before?
The contour works especially well for you if you have a round face that you want to appear longer.
All you have to do is apply it around the jaw bones, the sides and tip of your nose, and at the chin.
To apply the contour, you need a brush that you'll pass lightly in order to kinda blend it in and make it look natural.
• Translucent Powder.
I bet you've heard quite a lot of people recommend wearing powder to set your foundation,
It's not any kind of powder though, it has to be translucent because you wouldn't want it to add more pallor to your foundation.
You should apply it in small quantities until you feel that it's enough, because too much of it will look unnatural, and that's the last thing you'd want.
• Bronzer.
The bronzer is my favorite if i need to tone down the foundation a little bit and make it look a bit more natural especially bringing the warm impression.
Also, the bronzer is good for you if you just don't like the contour, or find it hard to tone it down.
Don't get me wrong though, cause you can wear the bronzer and the contour at the same time, and that's what most people do.
• Mascara.
For starters, Mascara is that one thing that you apply on your eyelashes to raise them more and make them standout. (And to paint your tears black when you cry. Lol)
You can either brush your lashes upwards or blink while you hold the brush against your lashes, so it paints itself almost seamlessly.
• Eyelashes.
By these, I mean those synthetic ones that you might wanna wear if you think you don't have enough lashes.
However, I recommend that you start with cheap lashes that you can learn with, because wearing lashes was one of the things that took me ages to learn.
• Eye-shadow.
Here, you have to simply choose the colors that match your skin, and start to apply them, but still in moderation, so that you don't look weird and unnatural.
•Lip liner.
The lip liner is supposed to show the shape and size of your lips, and also to mark your lip line.
It's better that you add the lip liner before you wear lipstick so you don't exceed your lip boundaries, or fail to reach them.
Some ladies prefer to use the lip liner after the lipstick to mark their lips as a final touch.
• Matte Lipstick.
It's not just any kind of lipstick. Matte lipstick is the best for you if you need that sexy finishing touch on the rest of the makeup.
* Liquid Matte lipstick is available at Milly K Cosmetics and right on this website is where you can place your order.
With this, you're a full package of makeup, and the last step, which is important for you is to know how you look, in general.
Step 5: Back check.
Now that you've applied all the makeup you need, it's time you looked in the mirror just to find those few flaws and edit them.
Look out for those few products that seem to outshine the rest, be it foundation or bronzer.
Remember, your main goal is not to show the products you're using, but to use the products to bring out the best version of you.
If you think you're not good enough to critic yourself, ask your roommate to tell you what she feels about your makeup, or take a clear snap and send it to your friends for reviews.
Bonus tip.
Keep practicing.
The magic to becoming a pro at almost anything is practice. You will totally suck at this, if you're just a beginner, and you might not like your looks, but you just have to keep going.
Look at your face as a piece of paper on which you can try different designs
When you make a mistake (which you’ll do most of the times), just erase the damn thing and repeat.
